Lending Money

My friend Lina promised her sister that she would look after her when they came to Hong Kong from China many years ago. Lina’s sister asked her to borrow money and Lina managed to control her husband to lend her money. They did not have saving but borrowed money from bank to lend money to her. As a result, they could not repay the loan to the bank or financial institution, so they were forced to sell their flat of area about 600 square feet. They have been paying very low mortgage of about HK$2,000/month (US$260/month). As a conclusion, don’t lend big money even to one’s own son or daughter, let alone close relative, by borrowing money from the bank or financial institution. Lina’s husband is a self-employed and Lina’s salary is not high and is a teacher under contract without job security. It is another sad ending.
